Frequently Asked Questions – Krav Maga Bristol
1. What should I wear to my first Krav Maga class?
You don’t need any special kit for your first session. Just wear a t-shirt, shorts or training bottoms, and clean indoor trainers.
As you progress, you may choose to get basic protective equipment like gloves or shin guards – but nothing is required to start.
Simple rule: wear something comfortable that lets you move freely and focus on learning.
2. Can I start Krav Maga if I’m not fit or coordinated?
Absolutely. Many of our students start with little or no fitness or martial arts background.
Our Krav Maga classes are structured so you can work at your own pace while gradually improving fitness, coordination, and confidence. There’s no pressure to “keep up” and no ego-driven training.
You’ll get fitter by training – not before training.
3. Is there a belt or grading system?
No. We don’t use belts or traditional gradings.
Krav Maga is a practical self-defence system, not a traditional martial art. Progress is measured by how well you move, respond under pressure, and apply techniques – much like boxing or Muay Thai.
If you’re interested in why Krav Maga works the way it does, you can read more about our core principles here.
4. Do you offer women-only self-defence classes?
We don’t currently run women-only classes.
Our regular sessions are mixed and designed to be supportive, professional, and welcoming for everyone. Training with a variety of partners helps develop realistic self-defence skills and confidence.
Many of our female members value this approach, but the best way to decide is simply to come and try a session.
5. How much do Krav Maga classes cost?
- Trial class: £8
- Monthly membership: £40 – £60 depending on how often you train
Classes are 90 minutes long. Most people start with a trial session to see if it’s a good fit before committing.
If you have questions about training frequency or suitability, just get in touch.
6. Do you run Krav Maga classes for kids?
Yes. We run dedicated kids’ Krav Maga classes designed to build confidence, awareness, coordination, and age-appropriate self-defence skills.
Sessions are structured, safe, and fun – with a strong focus on discipline and respect.
You can find full details on our kids’ programme here.
Where are you based?
We’re based in Kingswood, Bristol, and easily accessible from Easton, Hanham, Staple Hill, and Downend.
